Little paw cautiously touches my knee. Little face reaches up and draws close to my face trustfully. Wide open, emerald eyes look at me saying:
‘I can trust you. I know you’ll never hurt me.’
‘Are you sure?’ I ask perversely.
‘I am. I’ve checked on you.’
‘I watched you carefully when you used to come with the little bowls of food.’

‘Mom, can we have them?’
‘We’ve already got two cats, darling.’
‘But look – they are so cute! This one must be a girl!’
‘No. No way!’
‘So let’s give them something to eat at least.’
‘If we start feeding them they will stop hunting and will get dependant on us.’
The subject kept coming back like a boomerang for a month, but I was tough. Five cats in the house were way too many for me!
Most firmly determined never to give up, I shut the door behind me and set off to the shop, when all of the sudden, under a bush, I saw a tiny kitten fixing its huge, hungry eyes on me. Continue reading
I rushed out of the house catching a small, heavy rubber ball on my way. No, I don’t want to hurt him. I want to frighten him, make a lot of noise, throw something close to his ear so that he would remember and never come back!

I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and all the thoughts tormenting me the day before came back: Do the people know how to take care of the little animal? Will they see that it gets enough food? Won’t they allow their children harass it?
Have I assessed the people correctly? Wasn’t I to hasty with my decision? Maybe I sould have waited a bit longer?! Continue reading
